Using press releases to promote your website
October 4th, 2008
I don’t know you, but I do certainly love free solutions to my problems. One of the problems almost every webmaster has, whether or not their websites serve an economic purpose (= earn money), is how to generate traffic without going broke.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the search engines sent you massive qualified traffic, people interested in whatever your website is about? Yes, it would. Can only happen when your website is one of the top sites which come up for a search term. But there doesn’t seem to exist a convincing way to achieve that, else there wouldn’t be so many paid tools, e-books and training programs on subjects like “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO).
As far as I know those helpers, they all agree on the importance of link popularity. Meaning, your site will rank higher with the search engines if other websites point hyperlinks to it. Here is a method to get free links to your website:
1. Write press releases about something which is new on your website,
2. Post them on a press release repository,
3. Wait for news services and blogs to pick up your press release.
Even when point three never materializes, the benefit of point two is very well worth the effort: The link to your website inside your press release and in the bio or toolbox going with it helps raising the page rank of your website even when your press release just sits in the repository.
Today I found an interesting free press release service:
…which I am highly advising. Try it, it’s free, and give me your comments!
